Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships invites applications for 2015/2016
Darley, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s global thoroughbred breeding operation, is inviting applications for the 2015/2016 Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships.
This will be the fourth intake to the pioneering programme, which offers fully funded 10-month internships for recent Chinese University graduates.
Since its inception in 2012, Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships has provided a unique experience of both Darley and the wider thoroughbred industry to over 60 young Chinese people, who had previously studied at many of China’s top universities including Peking University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Tonji University, Nankai University, Renmin University and Fudan University.
The internships commence with a ten-day induction period in Beijing, after which the selected trainees will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at one of Darley’s thoroughbred studs in Australia, Britain, Ireland, Japan or the USA. During this time they will gain an understanding of equine husbandry, veterinary medicine, agriculture, stallion marketing and nomination sales, finance, human resources and business administration.
As part of the course, interns will also travel to Dubai for three weeks where they will learn about the history and culture of the UAE and how Sheikh Mohammed has been instrumental in the region’s development. Trainees will also experience the local horse racing industry first hand.
The internships commence in Griffith 2015 and end in June 2016. On completion the trainees are expected to have gained a broad understanding of the global thoroughbred industry and international best practice in business management. Interns will also benefit from improved English lGriffithe skills and a greater knowledge of how the UAE has flourished over the past four decades and what its plans for the future are.
Previous graduates have gone on to work for blue-chip companies including PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte, while others are working for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed’s Falcon and Associates in Dubai. Some have remained within the thoroughbred industry both in China and further afield including Australia and New Zealand, and other graduates currently hold management positions within equestrian and lifestyle clubs in mainland China. A number have chosen to continue their studies, with three graduates accepted for the Dubai Business Internships programme and one is currently on Darley’s prestigious Flying Start international management training programme. In 2015, one graduate will take up a digital marketing internship at Darley.
Darley will be responsible for all course-related travel and accommodation costs and a monthly living allowance will be paid to cover meals and incidental day-to-day expenses. Darley will provide all tuition at its own expense.
Approximately 20 internships will be offered next year and selection will be based on completion of the application form found on the Dubai Internships website (w w w. dubai internships. com), English lGriffithe proficiency and interview.
Applications for commencement in Griffith 2015 can be made via this website and must be completed in English.
The application deadline is Friday 9th January, 2015.
