澳洲天下皆知网讯 Are you thinking of heading to Australia to study next year? With hundreds of colleges offering a huge selection of courses across the country, choosing the right one can be difficult. Jennifer has interviewed lots of her Chinese friends who have studied or are currently studying in Australia – and has compiled a list of their 5 favourite courses, based on popularity and employability.

1 Accounting & Finance会计&金融

Many Chinese students are good with numbers （thanks to all those years of hardcore mathematics training in high school）， giving them an edge in number-orientated courses like accounting. Accountants have also traditionally been given priority in the Australian skill immigration list - meaning that if you successfully complete your accounting studies and pass the English test, you can apply for long-term residency.

许多中国学生对数字很敏感（感谢高中那些年我们做过的数学题），这使得他们在与数学有关的课程上有一定的优势，例如会计。依照惯例，澳大利亚技术移民会给会计人员以优先资格，那意味着如果你顺利完成会计学学习并且通过英语测试，你就很可能获得长期居住的资格。

Macquarie University （NSW） is a prestigious place to be if you are pursuing an accounting career. Upon completion of your degree, you will meet the accreditation requirements of international accounting bodies like the CPA, ICAA etc. But its fast-paced course is definitely not for the faint-hearted – so prepare to buckle down and work hard.

2 IT信息技术

IT is probably the second most popular course for Chinese students in Australia. Like accounting, it has been on the immigration list for a while, and its massive popularity can be attributed to its high employability. Thanks to the close relationship between China and Australia in the IT sector in recent years, industry giants like Telstra have a well-documented preference for students with Chinese backgrounds. （A few friends of mine have successfully landed graduate positions with medium to large IT firms.）

RMIT （Royal Melbourne Institution of Technology） is known for its high employability, especially in IT. The courses give you access to industry experts, and are highly vocational, with third year industry placements.

3 Teaching & Education教学&教育

In Australia, whether you are working in the public system or private schools, teachers are highly respected, and enjoy many professional perks: like paid school holidays up to 12 weeks, and above industry average superannuation. Most Chinese trainee teachers specialise in a couple of disciplines, such as Mandarin, Maths and Science. With solid numerical skills, many Chinese students excel in this profession.

Engineering graduates enjoy great job prospects, and the highest pay in Australia across all industries. With a versatile set of analytical and logic skills, engineering students find it easy to land a job in business and consulting as well. Students that persist in this line of work gain great self-development and job security in the long run. The promising job outlook will only get rosier for Chinese students: recent years have witnessed a collaborative journey that Australia and China are undertaking within the fields of energy, mineral and mining. Students with excellent communication and language skills have embarked on great careers with companies like Rio Tinto and BHP.

5 Communication & Media Studies通信&传媒学

There is an increasing number of students, both locally and internationally, majoring in media studies – ranging from general mass communications to public relations. Even if you later end up on a totally different career path, the skill-set you acquire in your studies will still help you a great deal once you are in the workforce: being able to communicate effectively is a valuable skill that many employers are looking for.
